About the museum
Wårkulla hembygdsgård is located in Andersby in Liljendal, today part of Loviisa. The house was built in the 1890s and was originally intended as the main building of a farm. The volunteer fire brigade had its own premises in the building from 1909 to 1925, and in 1929 the house was inaugurated as a prayer house. Over time it was no longer possible to continue the activities there.
Museum activities began in 1992, when the Liljendal local heritage association bought the property, and two years later the local heritage farm opened. A new exhibition hall was built on the site at the end of the 1990s by members of the association. The farm is also used for exhibitions and events, and its premises can be rented, for example for meetings.
The exhibition shows local agriculture and dairy activities by means of household objects and tools. When Hommansby school was closed in 2008, a special exhibition, “Pieni koululuokka” (Little Schoolroom), was built about a small school class. The farm also has a spray shed, a log storehouse (härbre) and an old-fashioned outbuilding, and the buildings are surrounded by a beautiful garden.
