About the museum
Taaborinvuori is a hill rising in the village of Palojoki next to the Aleksis Kiven syntymäkoti (Aleksis Kivi's birthplace). According to the story, Kivi named his childhood play place after Mount Tabor, which is mentioned in the Bible. The hill was the village children's play area and the young people's swing hill. Today it is an open outdoor area for everyone and, in summer, a stage for cultural events.
At the turn of the 1970s and 1980s, old buildings from various parts of Nurmijärvi were moved to the hill. The museum exhibitions in the buildings tell of the everyday chores of the people of Nurmijärvi in the early 20th century. The museum area is run by the Nurmijärven museo.
