About the museum
From the outset, the aim of Teisko-Seura (Teisko Society) was to found its own museum. Museum objects had been collected even before the society was founded, and the first actual museum building, the Lahho mill at the Kalmakurki rapids, passed into the society's control in the late 1950s. In 1972 the society received from the City of Tampere a free right of use for fifty years to the Kaunisto farm area in Koveron village, which was well suited as a museum site.
The museum's main building is a vieraspytinki (guest-room building) completed at the end of the 18th century. It was moved to the museum site from the Iso-Kivirannan farm in 1974 and restored in 1974–1975. The museum opened to the public in 1975. Inside are objects related to living: besides the hall, the chambers are furnished for the master of the house and for the old and young mistresses, and the kitchen contains household tools.
The yard also has a grain barn dating from 1784, a smaller barn, the Kalliovaari cabin, the cabin of a ruotusotamies (rote soldier), a smoke sauna, a smithy and a dugout. The collection contains more than 2,000 objects, obtained mainly as donations from people of Teisko. The museum holds events and performances in summer.
