About the museum
The Maitolaiturimuseo (Milk Platform Museum) operates in Velaatta village in Teisko, north of Tampere, on an old milk platform. The Lahdenmäki milk platform was built in the early 1960s, and it was restored in 1993 by local men through voluntary work and with support from the Finnish Road Administration (Tiehallinto). The museum has operated since then.
Milk platforms existed all over Finland from the 1950s to the 1970s, and they were important meeting places for villagers. The museum has no permanent collection; instead a new theme exhibition is held every summer. The museum’s trademark is a blue cow sculpture.
