About the museum

Teuvan kotiseutumuseo is located in a loan granary from the late 1700s. It preserves objects and stories of local history: the exhibits show farming and business in earlier times, and objects that present the deeds of well-known people from Teuva.

The collections consist mainly of peasant objects, kitchen tools, national costumes and butter churns, as well as tools for tar burning. The museum has an impressive ski collection, including wartime skis from the Nevala factory in Teuva and the wooden skis of skier Mauri Hongisto. The contents of the former Teuva pharmacy are almost entirely on display, and the medical equipment of tuberculosis doctor Severi Savonen belongs to the collection. The exhibition also presents the story of Otto Syreen, who founded a dye works, clay wares made by a local potter, instruments of the Teuva orchestra, and objects and photographs from the Civil War.

The local heritage museum also looks after the birthplace of hymn poet Simo Korpela, which lies a short distance from the village, and the Komsi windmill.
