About the museum
The local heritage museum, owned by Kauhajoen Museoyhdistys ry (Kauhajoki Museum Association), is located in the middle of the town near the Eduskuntamuseo and the Perinnetalo (Veterans’ Heritage House). The buildings and objects of the museum area show peasant life from the 19th century to the 1940s.
In the 1950s, buildings from various parts of the parish were moved to a plot donated by the municipality. The area has 12 relocated buildings, the oldest from 1789 and the others from the 19th century, including a two-fooni main building and two grain storehouses. The Matinliiveri agricultural exhibition hall was built in its place in 1983, and its canopy in 2004. In addition, the museum association received a former crown storehouse built in the 1860s on Päntäneentie.
Some buildings have explanations on outdoor signs with QR codes. The farm buildings and their rich collections give visitors the chance to see how people lived in earlier times.
