About the museum
The Jurvan Puuseppämuseo is run by the Puuseppämuseoyhdistys ry association, which collects, preserves and presents Jurva's cabinetmaking heritage. The museum opened in summer 1990 in the former Parkkamäki workshop building, which is owned by the municipality, and it is the only museum in Finland specialising in the furniture-making industry.
The museum building was completed in 1941. In the 1950s it was the home and workshop of the cabinetmaker Lauri Parkkamäki, and the museum aims to present it as it was in his time. The living quarters – rooms, kitchen and bedroom – are furnished in the style of the 1950s.
The collections include furniture, cabinetmaking tools and other woodworking objects, photographs and archival material. The basic exhibition is open in summer.
