About the museum
The Domus de Cieutat is a large town house from the ancient city of Elusa, present-day Eauze. Excavations carried out from 2001 to 2012 in an archaeological reserve of about twenty hectares uncovered it.
The peristyle house is thought to have been built in the 3rd century, covering 1,600 m². Around 350, its owner enlarged it to nearly 2,700 m²: this was its period of greatest splendor. It is organized around two peristyle courtyards and gardens, with a small set of private baths and a large reception hall, and occupies an elevated position in an aristocratic neighborhood.
At the entrance to the site, in the former Eauze railway station, an interpretation center presents a modern scenography with interactive tools and a virtual reconstruction film. It serves as the starting point for understanding the three sites of ELUSA Capitale Antique, of which the domus has been part since 2008.
