About the museum

The Village-Musée de la Combe de Savoie is run by the association Les Coteaux du Salin. It occupies a hillside on the right bank of the Isère, between Montmélian and Albertville, within the Massif des Bauges regional nature park. The slope was once planted with vines, which were abandoned at the beginning of the 21st century after the phylloxera crisis, wars and industrialization. More than fifty tree species have since taken root there naturally.

An artificial village was built on the site: more than twenty stone houses, made from stone taken from the slope itself, hold thousands of objects used by the people of the Combe de Savoie over the last few centuries, from thimbles to tractors.

A numbered trail of 26 stops features a mill, a school, a bread oven, a wash house, a forge, a wine cellar, beekeeping, agriculture and everyday life. Stone gardens, planted seasonally, complete the visit.
