About the museum
Fougerolles, in Haute-Saône, owes its reputation to cherry growing and kirsch distilling. The ecomuseum lies at the heart of a conservation orchard and tells the story of a family of distillers through several buildings: a manor house from 1829, distillery workshops, a servants’ house and a small stone house (chalot).
The visit covers two centuries of life in Fougerolles and explains the local know-how, from growing cherry trees to distillation. The site also includes a physic garden (jardin des simples), a fountain-washhouse (fontaine-lavoir) and a day labourers’ house (maison des manouvriers), which show the daily life of residents.
The ecomuseum links its visit with the village’s distilleries, which continue to make Fougerolles kirsch AOC and have earned Fougerolles the title “Site Remarquable du Goût”. It holds the Qualité Tourisme and Accueil Vélo labels and welcomes groups and school classes all year round.
