About the museum
The Casa de la Memoria de Isaba (Izaba) is an ethnographic museum of the Roncal valley in the Navarrese Pyrenees. It was founded to preserve, promote and enliven the heritage of the Roncal valleys and to explain Roncalese identity, shaped by life in a harsh environment. It is part of a cross-border heritage project with Arette, in the Baretous valley.
The museum is spread over three floors and combines panels, interactive media and videos. It covers livestock farming and herding, domestic life and leisure, the golondrinas (seasonal workers who migrated each year) and the importance of the almadía (log raft) in Navarre. Traditional Roncalese costumes can also be seen, and visitors can learn a few words of uskara, the Basque variety spoken in the valley.
According to official sources of the valley and the town council, the museum is listed as temporarily closed. To find out whether it is open, the Isaba town council should be consulted.
