About the museum
Fort Dorsner was built between 1875 and 1879 and belongs to the Belfort defensive ring. It could house up to 650 men and around 50 guns. It stands out for its octagonal central courtyard and its construction in pink sandstone.
The fort had two Mougin turrets, among the first installed in France. The German army used it as an observation post from 1940 to 1944. It then lay abandoned until 1988, when the town of Giromagny bought it.
The Association du Fort Dorsner runs it today. It organises free and guided visits as well as events, such as concerts, exhibitions, themed evenings and night tours by oil lamp. Event tickets are sold online.
The fort extends across the communes of Giromagny and Auxelles-Bas.
