About the museum
The Gornac windmill was built in 1601 by Jehan Gauthier, lord of Cazaulx. Built of rubble stone on a hill to the north of the village, it is one of the three windmills the commune originally had. The tower, the internal staircase and one of the doors date from that construction.
The commune bought the mill in 1975 to set up a museum of the vine and wine. After its restoration in the 1970s, the tower houses a collection of agricultural, winegrowing and craft tools, some dating back to the early 19th century: tools of the vigneron, cooper, farrier, clog-maker, woodcutter or harvester, accompanied by images of rural trades.
The mill is regarded as a symbol of Gornac’s heritage. It can be visited on request at the town hall and opens its doors during the Journées des Moulins in spring and the Journées du patrimoine in September.
