About the museum
The Villandraut municipal museum displays its collections in the Braneyre house, one of the oldest buildings in the town. Dating from 1753, the house has a rectangular plan, and its gable facing the street is typical of housing in the Bazadais. The museum was set up in the 1950s by Louis Cadis.
On the first floor, a late 19th-century Landes interior has been reconstructed. There are also objects related to fire-based crafts (pottery, glassmaking, metalwork) and finds from local excavations, notably from the Marimbault tumuli and ancient sites. Upstairs, tools used by craftsmen and farmers show the work of wool, horn, hemp and wood (cooper, plane maker, wheelwright).
The museum also holds temporary exhibitions on life in the town. It is run by the association Les Amis du Musée.
