About the museum
André Abbal (1876–1953), a sculptor born in Montech, became a resident of Carbonne through his marriage. He worked alternately in Carbonne and in Paris, where he had a studio. He remained faithful to direct stone carving and is buried in his garden.
The André Abbal museum and its museum garden were set up in 1972 in the very place where the artist worked. In the early 1990s, his widow gave part of the garden to the commune of Carbonne to create an open-air museum of monumental works. The museum was renovated in 1991–1992.
The permanent exhibition presents the work of the stone sculptor, woodwork and drawings. Temporary exhibitions devoted to different artists are organized at different times.
