About the museum
The Village Gaulois was the initiative of Jean-Luc Blanchard, a history enthusiast who roamed the Volvestre looking for remains for the archaeological map of the region. After documentary research from 1993, work began in 1996, and the association Archéosite Gaulois was founded in 1997. The first buildings were erected in 1998, and the first school groups were welcomed in 2000.
The site opened to the general public during the European Heritage Days in 2001, then for the summer season in 2003, with the construction of the reception building, the shop and the refreshment area. The rampart, the fortified gate and the houses were completed over the years; in 2006, the village was fully finished.
Today, some twenty buildings reconstructed on the basis of scientific research extend over 9 hectares on the banks of the Garonne. Craftspeople bring to life the work of bronze, the forge, pottery, leather, weaving and other Gaulish crafts. The site also presents the life of the Volcae Tectosages, a Gaulish people of the Toulouse region.

The main street is easy to walk along, but some paths are very steep, and the upper part of the village (the bronzesmith's workshop, the sanctuary, the remains, the sacred spring) is hard to reach. The screening room, the restaurant, the relaxation area and the toilets are accessible. People with reduced mobility can be dropped off in front of the fortified gate, 200 m from the car park.
