About the museum
The Musée de la Terre is housed in a former 18th-century mounted gendarmerie. It was founded in 1988 by the association Atelier Arts et Histoire, which still manages and runs it. Its aim is to celebrate the skills of the generations of potters and faience makers of Rambervillers.
The collections come from donations, deposits, subscriptions and purchases made by the association. Admission receipts are fully reinvested in buying local ceramics for the public; for exceptional pieces, the association may seek public or private funding.
The route presents 18th- and 19th-century faience, flamed stoneware, tiles and faience tiles, ancient pottery, a hospital pharmacy, the Rossignol bequest, statuary and religious art, as well as archaeological evidence and a model of the town through time. Every summer, a temporary exhibition opens at the start of the season.
