About the museum
The museum is housed on the second floor of Rouffach's former grain hall, once the capital of the Haut-Mundat, the lands of the bishop of Strasbourg in Upper Alsace. It presents the treasures of the town and of the villages in its bailliage.
The first room brings together objects from prehistory, the Metal Ages, the Roman period, the Migration Period and the Merovingian period. The second room is devoted to Rouffach in the Middle Ages, with its religious sites, including the Notre-Dame church and the Récollets church, and its fortified town, as well as discoveries from urban archaeology.
A space is dedicated to Marshal François-Joseph Lefebvre, born in Rouffach in 1755, who became Duke of Danzig under Napoleon.
