About the museum
The Musée du Barreau de Paris, inaugurated in 1983, belongs to the Ordre des avocats de Paris. It is housed in the former Hôtel de La Porte, Rue du Jour in the 1st arrondissement, a building listed as a historic monument.
Its roughly 600 objects, mostly gifts and bequests, trace the history of Paris lawyers from the 17th century to the 1960s and recall major trials in French history. The route includes, for example, a room devoted to the Ancien Régime and a room on the Dreyfus Affair.
According to the Ordre des avocats, the museum is currently closed for an indefinite period. The museum's website offers virtual exhibitions.
