About the museum
The Musée du maraîchage in Eysines recalls the work of the gardeners who turned the town’s damp land into vegetable-growing areas supplying the Bordeaux metropolitan area. It is located at the Lescombes estate, avenue du Taillan, and run by the association Connaissance d’Eysines.
In the former dovecote, a large collection of hand tools illustrates the stages of work: clearing, ploughing, manuring, sowing, planting, weeding, watering, pest control and harvesting. The barn houses bulkier equipment, such as delivery carts for vegetables, harrows, ploughs, vegetable-washing machines and an Archimedes screw used for irrigation.
The association also presents a market gardener’s hut on rue du Prado, showing the daily life of growers among their fields.
