About the museum
The Musée du sapeur-pompier d’Alsace opened in 2014 in Vieux-Ferrette, a village neighbouring Ferrette in the Haut-Rhin department. It occupies two buildings with a total area of 2,300 m², at 12–14 rue de Luppach.
The collections cover firefighting equipment from 1648 to 1969. The first room gathers hand pumps, helmets, horse-drawn steam pumps, badges and vehicles up to the 1930s; the second presents more recent vehicles from the 1940s onward. The museum holds more than 260 appliances and plans to develop its collection further.
Visitors also see hand, steam and motor pumps, ladders, sidecars, 19th-century firefighting uniforms, French and foreign helmets, and a reconstructed 20th-century telephone switchboard from the former Mulhouse barracks. Among the notable items are an important collection of Delahaye vehicles and an airport intervention truck. The museum holds the “Musée de France” label as well as the international label of the Comité technique international du feu (CTIF).
