About the museum
Opened in 2009, the Poste-Musée d'Eyguians is presented as the only post office in France with a museum area. The usual postal services are provided there, and visitors can at the same time browse the collections on the history of La Poste.
The display cases show instructive and sometimes unusual objects: a postilion's costume and boots, a courier's uniform, old telephones, letter boxes and model postal vehicles. Each year, temporary thematic exhibitions are organized, for example on the rural postman, “La Poste dans le monde” or the history of La Poste in the Hautes-Alpes, as well as philatelic exhibitions.
In summer, guided visits with commentary take place on Sundays. They also make it possible to see a patache, a horse-drawn carriage similar to the stagecoach, and the roulantes de facteurs, which are only accessible on that day.
