About the museum

The foundation was laid by the former motorcycle and hill-climb racer Walter Proebst, who from the mid-1970s, together with his wife Hilde, collected and restored old cars and motorcycles. The first pieces were initially kept in a hall provided by sponsors in Moosburg, with motorcycles even in the attic at home. After a long search, a building site was found in Adlkofen, and at Easter 1980 the museum opened in a purpose-built hall.

The operator is the association Scuderia Isar, which grew out of Proebst's racing team of 1972. Because space soon ran out, a second hall with motorcycle galleries was added in the mid-1980s; since then the vehicles have stood packed tightly together on about 900 square meters. Daughter Verena Proebst now runs the museum.

The collection sees itself as a "triple museum": a good 70 automobiles – including several Maseratis, a Ferrari Dino, Tatras, DKW two-strokes and about 16 racing cars –, around 120 motorcycles of German and international makes, and about 250 individual engines and cutaway models. The vehicles come from Germany, Italy, France, England, the Czech Republic, the USA, Sweden and Russia. The association also operates a workshop, takes part in historic races and hosts the annual classic car rally Alex v. Falkenhausen Classics.
