About the museum
The Schulmuseum Ahrain opened on July 6, 2012, and considers itself the first and so far only school museum in Lower Bavaria with a hands-on concept. The initiator was the historian Dr. Wilhelm Eggert-Vockerodt, who had collected school furniture, teaching aids and everyday objects of school life for years and for a long time led the Förderverein (friends' association).
In spring 2011, empty classrooms at the Ahrain primary school became available to serve as rooms for the museum. Together with other supporters, the founder selected the exhibits for the permanent exhibition and developed historic teaching modules for various subjects.
The Markt Essenbach (municipality) has since taken over sponsorship and has owned the exhibits since January 2014. The museum is run by the Förderverein Schulmuseum Ahrain e. V. with volunteer helpers. The exhibition shows school history from the 18th and 19th centuries to the present, with a focus on the Landshut region.
