About the museum
The Aurora Erbstolln lies in the Wilde Weißeritz valley near Dorfhain and is one of the small mine workings on the edge of the large Saxon mining districts. Its mining claim (Mutung) dates back to the early 16th century; mainly silver-bearing lead and copper ore were mined, as well as barite and fluorite.
Today the mining heritage association Gewerkschaft Aurora-Erbstolln e. V. operates the mine as a small show mine. On a tour of about 35 minutes, visitors see, among other things, a windlass shaft installation, overhand and benching stopes and historical tools; exhibitions are also shown inside the mine.
The mine is the highlight of a mining trail laid out by members of the former working group "Historischer Bergbau". The trail begins at the "Edle Krone" mine complex with its Huthaus (mine office building), passes the "Unverhofft Glück" mine and several mills in Dorfhain, and ends at the show mine.
