About the museum
In Möglin on the western edge of the Oderbruch, the physician Albrecht Daniel Thaer acquired the manor estate in 1804 and turned it into a model farm. In 1806 he founded the first agricultural school in the German-speaking world here, which existed until 1861.
Remembrance of Thaer has a long tradition on site: at first there was a Thaer room in the manor house. The Fördergesellschaft (support society), founded in 1991, opened an exhibition in the Inspektorenhaus (inspector's house) in November 1992, which was expanded after the village church was restored in 2004. After the rooms were terminated in 2007, the permanent exhibition moved in 2009 to a newly built exhibition building.
Today the exhibition building, the church with Thaer's grave, the estate park with a Thaer bust and a memorial stone form a protected historic ensemble. The exhibition presents Thaer's life, the agricultural reforms and their consequences between 1800 and 1900.
