About the museum

The storehouse was the first building of Averbecks Hof in Glane that the Averbeck foundation had restored. Since 1998 it has housed a local history museum that the Heimatverein Glane set up together with the Verein für Orts- und Heimatkunde and runs on a volunteer basis; the Kulturhistorisches Museum Osnabrück helped with the setup, and many pieces come from donations by citizens.

On several levels the storehouse shows the history of the farm and village – with a model of the farm complex at the time of the monastery's founding in the 11th century and archaeological finds – as well as Glane costumes, a large collection of gold, silver, and other bonnets, embroidery sampler cloths (the oldest from 1722), and liturgical vestments. On the ground floor, works by the sculptor Heinrich Pohlmann, born in Glane, are on display.

After the renovation in 2015/2016, further museum areas were added: the former farm building of 1933 offers exhibition space, a small historic classroom, a photo lab, a hand-printing workshop, and the local archive; the half-timbered farmhouse of 1766 shows the farm life of the Averbeck family around 1930.
