About the museum

The Jexhof is a solitary farmstead in the middle of the forest between Schöngeising and Mammendorf. It is first mentioned in records in 1433 and belonged to Fürstenfeld Abbey from 1564; its tenants tended the abbey's livestock and managed the large beech forest. The Schneider family built the farmhouse with its horse stable around 1775.

In 1862 the Riedl family bought the farm, worked it for three generations and built most of the buildings visible today – from the bakehouse of 1891 and the grain barn of 1897 to the barn and cowshed of 1931. The farm was inhabited until 1980, last by the longtime maid Resi Geiger. Because hardly anything was changed or removed, the furnishings from around 1900 have survived almost completely.

From 1983 a friends' association campaigned to save the complex; in 1987 the district of Fürstenfeldbruck opened its farm museum here. In addition to the farmhouse, chambers and horse stable, it displays a large collection of agricultural implements, a presentation on flax and weaving, a tactile room and changing special exhibitions in the former cowshed. An extensive program for schools and kindergartens combines everyday history with nature in the surrounding Wildmoos area. The museum received the Heimatpreis Bayern (Bavarian heritage award) in 2018; the barn has been undergoing renovation since summer 2026.
