About the museum

The roots go back to 1903/04: citizens from the Historischer Verein Fürstenfeldbruck (historical society), led by court chaplain August Aumiller, founded a district museum to preserve evidence of monastery history, crafts, and folk art from oblivion. The collection, housed in a former brewery on Kirchstraße, soon came to be seen as a model for further museum foundations in Bavaria.

Difficult decades followed. During the First World War the rooms were used for other purposes, in 1934 the municipality had the building demolished, the holdings moved through various storage sites, and valuable loans were lost. From 1961, a remnant was on view in the Old Town Hall. In 1979, the city took over the collections and set up a city museum.

In 1991, the museum opened in the former brewery and bakery of the Fürstenfeld Cistercian monastery with an exhibition on monastery history. In 1995, the section "Leben in Bruck um 1900" (Life in Bruck around 1900) was added, later the archaeological presentations. Since 2013, the museum has been called Museum Fürstenfeldbruck and shows the monastery section in a new design; once a year it also uses the neighboring Kunsthaus for exhibitions.

Today the collection focuses mainly on objects from the former monastery and the district as well as works by artists and craftspeople who were active in the region in the 19th and 20th centuries.
