About the museum
The museum belongs to the Fürstenfeldbruck model railway club (Modelleisenbahnclub Fürstenfeldbruck), which was founded in Grafrath on March 12, 1976. In 1981 the club moved to Fürstenfeldbruck station. In 1983 the Interessengemeinschaft Deutsche Feld- und Waldbahnen (German field and forest railways interest group) was set up as a subdivision, and a year later the Museum für Feld- und Waldbahnen followed. When the station area was rebuilt in 2001, the track network could be expanded, allowing more extensive train operation.
The museum includes the track network, the vehicles, a locomotive shed with an old forge, and a historic water crane. The shed previously provided shelter for the Köf shunting locomotive stationed in Fürstenfeldbruck. Most of the exhibits come from Bavaria and were restored by hand by the members, who bear the costs themselves.
The collection covers locomotives, rail inspection cars and wagons, and the themes of forest railways, field railways, peat railways, mining, tunnel construction and power plant railways, as well as agriculture and smithing. The building also houses a large H0 model railway layout.
