About the museum

The farm museum in the hamlet of Hof, east of Kirchanschöring, is a private foundation: the farmer and local historian Franz Huber built it up next to his own farm. It began with the so-called Schmiedhof from Hötzling, a single-ridge farmhouse (Einfirsthof) bearing the year 1811, which he had taken down and rebuilt here; the museum opened in 1981.

In the following years further historic buildings were added, including granaries – one with a door dated 1594 –, a flax-drying bathhouse (Brechlbad) from around 1800, a baking oven and a museum barn. The complex is listed in the municipality's register of monuments.

In the barn, agricultural and craft tools show the path from cultivation to threshing. The collection also includes about 50 old tractors, the oldest from 1937. The centerpiece is a historic steam engine, which is used every August to demonstrate traditional steam threshing. The museum continues to be expanded step by step and thus gives a vivid impression of rural life and work in the Rupertiwinkel in earlier times.
