Bauernmuseum Richen
Branch of the Eppingen town museum in the former bull barn of Richen: rural life and work in the Kraichgau, open on the 1st Sunday of the month from May to October.
About the museum
The half-timbered house on Hintere Gasse in Richen dates from the first half of the 18th century. It originally belonged to the Princes of Leiningen and served as a wine press house. In 1837 the municipality of Richen acquired the property and converted it into a bull barn with living quarters, where the village's communal breeding bull was kept.
During the renovation, the half-timbering was exposed again and the listed suspended roof truss was restored. In 2000 the Bauernmuseum (farm museum) opened here as a branch of the town and half-timbering museum "Alte Universität" in Eppingen.
A furnished kitchen, living rooms and bedrooms, utility rooms and a cider cellar show how farming families in the Kraichgau lived and worked before industrialization. There are also agricultural implements and the workshops of a shoemaker, painter, locksmith and blacksmith. Since 2007 an orchard meadow nature trail has rounded out the offering, while festivals, craft markets, workshops and special exhibitions bring the house to life.
