About the museum

The Blaulichtmuseum (Blue Light Museum) is located in Beuster, a district of the Hanseatic city of Seehausen in the eastern Altmark near the Elbe. In 2001 the founders acquired a site of about one hectare that had served the local LPG (agricultural cooperative) in GDR times as a workshop base for tractors and farm machinery. The badly dilapidated buildings were renovated through their own labor.

The museum was inaugurated in 2002 with a two-day museum festival; the sponsoring association Blaulichtmuseum Beuster e.V. followed in September 2003. Since then, the association has organized the multi-day Blaulichttage every summer, with vehicle demonstrations, rides, and hands-on activities.

The collection shows emergency vehicles of the Volkspolizei, the fire department, and the rescue service of the GDR, as well as vehicles of the NVA, the Soviet armed forces, and the GDR government. The grounds also include a recreated Konsum store, a forge, a Minol gas station, a newspaper kiosk, an exhibition on RFT broadcasting technology, a reconstructed office of a neighborhood police officer (Abschnittsbevollmächtigter), a bread oven, and a field railway loop.
