Bördemuseum Lamstedt
Local history museum in a thatched half-timbered house in Lamstedt with Geest farmers' traditional costumes, old workshops, and rural household goods.
About the museum
The foundation of the collection was gathered by Karl-Heinz Meyer, who from 1948 worked for decades as the local heritage keeper of the Börde Lamstedt. The costumes, furniture, and tools were initially stored provisionally in the old school until the district decided to found a museum. The Bördemuseum opened in 1964.
The museum building is a thatched half-timbered house that originally stood about 400 meters further east and belonged to a blacksmith's shop. Because it had to make way for the modernization of the village, the roof truss and beams were dismantled and rebuilt at the present site at the intersection of the B 495 and L 116.
The focus of the exhibition is on the Geest farmers' costumes for which Lamstedt was known in the Elbe-Weser region – with Sunday, festive, full-mourning, and half-mourning costumes. In addition there are reconstructed blacksmith's, clog maker's, and tailor's workshops, old cupboards and chests, a typical living room ("Döns") with a box bed and cast-iron stove, and a genealogical chart of the Börde. The house also keeps a book collection on the Elbe-Weser region. Since 2019, the local heritage keeper Hinrich Hildebrandt has directed the museum.
