About the museum
The history of the Friesisches Brauhaus zu Jever goes back to 1848, when the innkeeper Diedrich König announced that he would sell bottled beer. In 1867 Theodor Fetköter took over the small brewery, relied on his own bottles and advertising early on, and turned it into a large brewery. In 1923 the company passed to the Hamburg Bavaria-St.-Pauli brewery; in 1934 brewmaster Ernst Böhme developed the particularly hoppy recipe that has been sold under the name Jever Pilsener since 1937.
A historic brewery museum has been set up on the brewery grounds, showing Frisian brewing tradition and the development of the brewery with numerous exhibits. It can only be visited as part of the brewery tour: after the museum, the tour continues to the modern brewery from the brewhouse to the bottling plant, where up to 60,000 bottles per hour are filled. The tour ends with a beer tasting in the brewery tavern "Haus der Getreuen".
