About the museum
The Diakonie Museum of the Rummelsberger Diakonie has existed since 2015. It is devoted to the history of Protestant welfare work in Bavaria, using exhibitions that are each shown for one to two years. Its foundation is the institution's academic research, the results of which are published in extensive accompanying volumes.
The museum is housed in the former craftsmen's building of the Rummelsberger Anstalten, built in 1927. Young people were once trained there in trades such as baker, butcher, brush maker or shoemaker; the master craftsmen's apartments were on the upper floors.
Previous exhibitions dealt with, among other things, migration and hospitality as a diaconal task, the role of the Diakonie in the First World War, and missionaries from Bavaria. Since April 2026 the focus has been on the relationship of the Bavarian Diakonie to National Socialism, including forced sterilisation and the Nazi “euthanasia” programme.
The museum sees itself as a place for learning and conversation: alongside guided tours for groups and school classes, its offer includes lectures and events as part of the cultural programme of Rummelsberg and Schwarzenbruck. A visit can be combined with a walk through the parkland of the Diakonie centre and the Philippuskirche.

Getting there & parking
The museum is located in the Rummelsberg district (Rummelsberg 47, next to the café). Coming from Altdorf, some satnavs direct you via the narrow access road through Fröschau; it is better to follow the road to Ochenbruck and turn off there towards Rummelsberg – this applies especially to coaches.
