About the museum
The Oberrosphe village museum is housed in the village's former manorial forester's estate from the 18th century, an ensemble of a residential house, House 13, a stable building, a barn and a machine hall. The Heimat- und Verschönerungsverein Oberrosphe e. V. (local heritage and beautification association) runs the museum on a volunteer basis; on Wednesdays and Saturdays, active members meet to do handicrafts and keep the buildings in good repair.
In the residential house, everyday life around 1900 and 1950 can be traced. Twelve living spaces show, among others, a kitchen, a maid's room, the best room (Gute Stube), a registry office, a schoolroom, a church room, a bedroom with a home birth, an outhouse and a refugee room. Several rooms have short audio pieces on the museum website. House 13 is devoted to children's toys, linen production and traditional costume.
The stable building holds an old cowshed, a bridal wagon and an exhibit on forestry work; the barn shows crafts such as miller, baker, wagon builder and shoemaker, as well as a flea market and, during Advent, a nativity exhibition with around 100 nativity scenes. The machine hall displays large agricultural machines, threshing machines, a potato steamer and some very old tractors.
