About the museum
The Heimatmuseum in Caldern, a district of Lahntal, is run by the local heritage and history association, founded in 1983 by twelve founding members, and is supported by the municipality of Lahntal. It is housed in a building roughly 300 years old, known as the "Koetshaus" (coach house).
The exhibition, under the motto "Urgroßmutters Kindheit" ("Great-grandmother's Childhood"), shows village life around 1900. On display are, among other things, a canopy bed with a cradle, costumed dolls in Marburg dress, clothing and linen, flax-processing equipment, old sandstone gravestones, a cobbler's room and agricultural tools. Further themes are farms, crafts and village history, along with a presentation on the former Cistercian convent of Caldern.
