About the museum
The Brodersby-Goltoft village museum goes back to the collector of rural and village cultural heritage Wolfgang Schmidt, who laid the foundation for the exhibition in 1988. Today a friends' association with many volunteers runs the house; in 2022 it received the seal of quality of the Museumslandschaft Schleswig-Holstein.
Over two floors and 450 square meters, visitors can explore rural life in the last century. Re-created are an old schoolroom, a “gute Stube” (best room), a laundry room and kitchen, as well as a carpenter's workshop, a forge, a post office, a dental practice and a hair salon. The museum sees itself as a hands-on museum: visitors are meant not only to look at things but to try them out. Next to the house stands an arbor with a small beekeeping museum.
The building also houses the municipal archive and the Heimatstube (local history room). They document the village history and recall the armed conflicts of the 19th century in the region. Events take place regularly on the grounds, such as the raising of the maypole and the Day of Crafts, where old craft skills are demonstrated. Many exhibits have QR codes that lead to short videos, the “Taschenkino” (pocket cinema).
