About the museum
Michael Steinberger of Kienberg, a late returnee from Russia, collected after World War II what would otherwise have been lost when the farms and houses were modernized. His collection was first kept in the basement of the school building; in 1996 the association "Dorfmuseum und Heimatgeschichte Kienberg e.V." was founded and developed it further. In 1999, Steinberger and his wife gave everything to the municipality.
After a long time in boxes in an attic, because the rooms in the school were needed for midday childcare, the museum moved at Pentecost 2020 into the "Zur Post" building, which the municipality had acquired and renovated; the museum is on the second floor.
The collection covers the period from the 17th to the 20th century: furniture, documents, pictures, books and photographs, a large collection of memorial cards, long sample pattern books for knitting, embroidery and crochet, weavings and bobbin lace, clothing, traditional costumes and jewelry, and focal areas on church, school, the postal service, the world wars and the postwar period.
