About the museum
The Dorfstube Wankum is housed in the former chaplain's house in the village center of Wankum, a protected historic building dating from 1870/71. After extensive renovation work, it opened in 2008. The Geschichtskreis Wankum e.V. runs the local history museum there, along with an archive, a library, and a meeting room for its gatherings.
The exhibition on the second floor is organized into five themed areas: church life, local history, traditional crafts, daily life and housing, and the world wars. On display are documents, maps, everyday objects, and liturgical pieces from Wankum's former parish church, including figures from the old church, which was demolished in 1905. In addition, rotating special exhibitions are held, for example at Christmastime with nativity scenes and Christmas trees.
