About the museum
The Eifelmuseum sees itself as a museum of the region and presents the landscape, natural environment and people of the Eifel in their historical development. It is spread across two buildings in the centre of Blankenheim: the main building on Ahrstraße and the Gildehaus on Johannesstraße, which has belonged to the museum since 1960.
Until 2013 the Gildehaus housed exhibitions on the traditional living and working worlds of the Eifel. Today, over three floors, it houses the information centre on the Roman long-distance road VIA Agrippa with the history of the Roman villa of Blankenheim, as well as a show on the more than 900-year history of the town and of the Counts of Manderscheid-Blankenheim.
In the main building the museum presents topics from the history of the earth and of settlement, as well as changing exhibitions on the art and culture of the Eifel. A new permanent exhibition is currently being installed in the basement, due to open in 2027; the upper floor and the Gildehaus remain accessible until then. Admission is free in both buildings.
