About the museum
The Vereinshäusl in the Upper Lusatian municipality of Großschönau belongs to the association Nordböhmen-Heimatwerk e.V. It is an old Umgebindehaus, the house type typical of the region, and serves the association as a meeting place and as a small local history museum.
It shows an extensive collection of historical North Bohemian costumes. The permanent exhibition traces several home regions of the former German-speaking areas of North Bohemia: from the Saaz region through the Ore Mountains, the low mountain ranges and the Elbe valley to the South Lusatian lowland, the Isergebirge (Jizera Mountains) and the Riesengebirge (Giant Mountains). A dedicated parlor commemorates Kurt Röschl.
Besides the exhibition, the association uses the house for events on dialect, customs and the history of North Bohemia; in 2018, for example, a dialect conference on the South Lusatian-Silesian language took place here.
