About the museum
Behind the museum stands the collecting passion of Manfred Stör. Already as an electrician's apprentice he gathered everything that was old and electrical, and over the years he came to around 4,000 devices. It is important to him that the pieces are not just displayed but still work; duplicate examples therefore serve as a spare-parts store.
For years the collection lay unnoticed. The impetus to make it public came in 1998, with the 100th anniversary of the introduction of electricity in Leutkirch: Stör then opened the museum on Isnyer Straße. Today it is located at Eichenstraße 3 and shows electrical devices from 1900 onward over more than 400 square meters, from light bulbs, washing machines, ovens, irons and vacuum cleaners to music playback devices and coin-operated gaming machines.
On August 11, 2008, the Elektrotechnisches Museum Leutkirch e.V. was founded; it now has around 50 members from all over Germany. It supports the museum director, looks after the collection and the building, and organizes traveling exhibitions in southern Germany. The museum is financed through membership dues and donations.
