About the museum
The private museum in Obereisenheim on the Main opened on October 3, 1997. It is based on a collection of Ore Mountain folk art that the operating family assembled over roughly forty years; it comprises around 15,000 pieces, several thousand of which are shown in the exhibition rooms.
The exhibition in the "Guckstübel-Museum" shows pyramids, candle spiders, music boxes, nativity scenes, light arches, nutcrackers, smoker figures, angels, flower children, children's toys and miniatures, some of them in matchboxes or nutshells. The oldest piece is a mechanical nativity scene from 1870. A few works from Thuringia and Franconia complement the Ore Mountain objects. The rooms are redecorated seasonally; the display follows the four seasons.
The house is regarded as one of the most varied of its kind in Germany. Alongside the museum there has so far been a café, the "Hutzenstübel", and a sales outlet for Ore Mountain folk art; both will close after 29 years on December 21, 2026, for health reasons. The museum itself remains open in 2027 as well.
