About the museum
The STATT-Museum opened in December 1996 in Obergasse in Herbstein as a museum and cultural meeting place. In May 2008 the municipal Fastnachtsmuseum moved into the same building. Since then, both houses have been connected through the town wall and vaulted rooms into one joint tour and can be reached through a single entrance.
The town-history section tells the story of Herbstein. Particularly striking is the great town fire of 1907, which is brought to life by a light-and-sound staging triggered by motion detectors. Other themes include the history of the mayors since 1849 and a historic pharmacy room. Changing special exhibitions regularly take up other subjects.
In the carnival section, the focus is on the Bajazz with its Springerzug (jumping procession), which has moved through the town on Rose Monday for more than 300 years. The figures are displayed in their original uniforms. There are also orders and decorations, many photos and a film about past carnival seasons. The museum is run by the Museums-, Geschichts- und Kulturverein Herbstein (museum, history and culture association).
