About the museum

The information center stands on the Hoherodskopf in the Vogelsberg and is also the tourist information for the Erlebnisberg and the whole region. The roughly 20-year-old exhibition was renewed and reopened in August 2018 after a long conversion period. It was created as a joint project of the Naturpark Vulkanregion Vogelsberg, the Geopark and the Vogelsberg large-scale nature conservation project, with an exhibition builder from Mühlheim. It was funded by the State of Hesse, the EU, the Sparkassenstiftung Oberhessen and other sponsors, among others.

Covering 120 square meters, the modular exhibition deals with flowing waters and springs, local recreation and forest, raised bogs and mountain hay meadows, and the geology of the largest volcanic mountain range in Europe. Instead of purely text-based display cases, it relies on short texts, large pictures, action walls, media technology and playful hands-on stations, so that children can also grasp the themes. Its target groups are families, children, young people and school classes.

Besides the exhibition, the house offers information material on hiking, cycling and mountain bike tours, a small shop, and programs such as geocaching, forest games and children's birthday parties. A multipurpose hall is available for seminars and celebrations. According to the Vogelsbergkreis, it is probably one of the most visited facilities in the district.
