About the museum
The Slawendorf was built on the grounds of a former school garden directly on the Havel, just a few steps from the Brandenburg old town. It recalls that Slavic tribes settled in the region of today's Mark Brandenburg around a thousand years ago, and it brings their everyday life in the early Middle Ages to life.
The site consists of replica buildings and landscape features: windowless log houses whose joints are sealed with clay and straw, as well as a smithy, a bakehouse, a charcoal kiln, burial mounds and a Slavic earthen rampart (Burgwall). The Slawendorf is run by the municipal employment and structural development company BAS.
Besides guided tours and group programs, the grounds serve as a backdrop for festivals and markets, including a winter market before Christmas. Currently it is open only to registered visitor groups.
