About the museum
Trams first ran in Brandenburg an der Havel in 1897, initially as a horse-drawn tramway; they have been electric since 1911. The museum documents this history of more than 120 years, from 1897 to 2026, and the eventful development of this means of transport in the Havel city.
It is housed on the upper floor of a DC substation that is still in operation, and opened in October 1997. Current and former employees of the transport company have gathered, with a great deal of voluntary effort, an extensive collection of documents and artefacts that brings the old days of the Brandenburg tram to life on a tour. The museum is run on a voluntary basis by the IG Eisenbahn – Modelleisenbahn Brandenburg.
