About the museum

For the village's 1200th anniversary in 1978, a small group of Leimersheim citizens set up a local history museum, initially in the rooms of the community hall. When an old half-timbered house came up for sale in summer 1978, the municipality bought it in October 1979 with donations and grants from the district and the state. According to the beam inscription, the house was built in 1731 by Hans Georg Becker and his wife Margaretha; it was in poor condition and was restored.

Because the work required a larger group, a friends' association for local heritage and customs was founded in November 1980, and it still looks after the Fischerhaus today. The association also maintains traditional costume, theater and dialect, and offers tours, such as night-watchman tours and Rhine tours.

The museum has one room each for tools, the kitchen, the "Gute Stube" (best room) and a laid table from around 1870. In addition there are prehistoric finds from the municipal area, church objects such as chasubles and prayer books, and objects relating to Rhine shipping and fishing, including waders, net needles and specimens of native fish.
